Become Part of Our Family
Changes in the family structure have left many seniors alone in their family home without the type of help that would normally be provided by neighbors or relatives. Help with little things like the weekly shopping trip or the spring clean up in the yard can make a big difference in the ability of seniors to maintain their independence and vitality.
If you have a passion for growing vegetables in the backyard or love to shop at the mall, there is probably an elderly person down the block who would treasure the time spent together sharing the same activity.
Your Time Can Change A Life
Volunteers with Eastside Friends of Seniors provide seniors the dignity they seek and the companionship they deserve. Simple rides and occasional help with routine errands give seniors the confidence to maintain the dignity of an independent life. EFS screens each volunteer so you will be matched with seniors in your own community. The agency will also provide any on-going resources necessary to enhance your work with the elderly.
Ways Volunteers Can Help The Elderly:
Transportation to medical appointments
Door-through-the-door services from the senior’s home into the health care provider’s office and safely back home again.
Shopping and errands
Not necessarily just a ride – if the clients need it, help in the store, or putting groceries away at home.
Housekeeping, handyman chores, and yardwork.
Ending social isolation with your smile.
Types Of Volunteering:
There is no long-term commitment required. Volunteers can sign-up to lend assistance just once or with projects that match their interests (like home repair or gardening.) Assistance is always welcome in the EFS office too. Feel good about yourself and spread that feeling with others by becoming a volunteer with Eastside Friends of Seniors.
