INTERESTED IN BECOMING A VOLUNTEER?
Your Time Can Change a Life
Without volunteers, Eastside Friends of Seniors (EFS) would not exist. Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization, helping in many different ways – providing rides, performing household chores or handyman tasks, visiting with seniors in person or over the phone, and more.
Volunteering can be as little as a couple hours twice a month, or as much as five hours every week. We’ll work with your schedule/availability. If you’re looking to develop a bond with your client, we can accommodate. Our team screens each volunteer and client so you will be matched with a senior who could best benefit from your skills and interests. If your time is limited, we have many requests that are one-offs, so volunteering just once or twice a month is completely acceptable and appreciated.
HOW YOUR TIME AS A VOLUNTEER CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OUR SENIORS
Transportation to Healthcare Appointments: We always need volunteers willing and able to provide door-through-the-door service from a senior’s home to a health care provider’s office and safely back home again. Drivers must be 21+, have a valid driver’s license, and pass a
Shopping and Errands: Clients often need more than just a ride to the store. They may need help reaching items on the top or bottom shelves, and/or putting groceries away at home. Drivers must be 21+ and have a valid driver’s license.
Home Chores: Some clients have difficulty with basic housekeeping chores, yardwork, or handyman tasks. These volunteers help seniors live in clean, safe, and secure environments.
Friendly Visits: Social isolation can cause loneliness and depression. Since most of our clients live alone, they appreciate the opportunity to visit with a friendly volunteer in their home and/or on the phone. Sometimes a simple smile, a few minutes of your time, and some kind words can make all the difference in the world.
Committee Member: We are always looking for dedicated board and committee members who have skills to support activities that provide funding and community support that will help us achieve our mission.
EFS Events & Fundraising: Volunteers are essential in staging our signature events, including SUDS for Seniors and our annual luncheon, Enriching Lives. These events not only raise critical funds that allow us to continue to support our seniors but help to recruit new volunteers and new donors.
“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.”
-Sherry Anderson
YOU CAN BE THE LIGHT IN A SENIOR’S LIFE
Please consider how you might lend a hand in helping seniors in the Issaquah or Sammamish area live independently for as long as they are able. We will make it easy to fit volunteering into your schedule and you will join a family of volunteers dedicated to helping others.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
Since we work with a vulnerable population, all volunteers complete a vetting process which includes a phone screen, background & reference checks, driving record request (if applicable), and 40-minute volunteer orientation. Click one of the links below to sign-up or access the volunteer forms. We look forward to hearing from you.
